Grasslands

Explore the Grasslands and spot birds from three hides among tall grasses. Discover the iconic Lone Tree, a sculpture inspired by Jurong's industrial past.

Take a stroll in fields of gold at the Grasslands.

Dominated by tall grasses, Grasslands are an important habitat for many small bird species that feed on grass seeds and seek shelter in the grass. There are three bird hides located around the Grasslands.

The Lone Tree stands tall amongst the grasses and forms a feature point that punctuates the expanse of the grasslands. Its branches offer an unobstructed view of the grasslands, making it an ideal perch for raptors such as the Brahminy Kite (Haliastur indus).

Fun Facts!

  • The bird hide allows you to view these grassland birds up close and observe their behaviour without alarming them.

  • Contrary to popular belief, the grasses in the Grasslands are not Lalang. The dominant grass seen in the Grasslands is the Chinese Fountain Grass (Pennisetum alopecuroides). Other grasses include Mission Grass, (Pennisetum polystachion), Vetivergrass (Chrysopogon zizanoides), Purple Fountain Grass (Pennisetum rubrum), West Indian Lemon Grass (Cymbopogon citratus) and Slender Tuft Grass (Pogonatherum paniceum).

  • The Lone Tree is made from recycled iron reinforcement bars salvaged from old park pathways. This sculpture is inspired by the industrial origins of Jurong.
